A life of writing

I was a teenager when my parents bought me a second-hand portable typewriter. We didn't have much money but it was the best present I ever received. My mum knew how much time I spent writing stories and poems, the typewriter made me a professional she said.

At university I wrote plays my fellow Drama students performed. As a Drama teacher, I did the same for my students and the youth theatre I'd created; I also wrote 3 non-fiction books for Drama teachers. As an education consultant I wrote regular columns for a national education journal for four years, as well as for magazines and academic papers. 

 I've always read speculative fiction so writing stories in that genre was a given. After completing a writing course with Curtis Brown Creative in 2016, I self published The Bastard from Fairyland and its subsequent novels in the trilogy. From there, having become part of a supportive and friendly writing community, I've developed the career I never thought I'd achieve. That creative urge has always been with me; when I don't write, I get frustrated and miserable. A writer needs to write - ask any author!
